Welcome, summer! There’s no place like Lowcountry to savor the lazy, hazy days of summer, and with tons of fun activities and events taking place, your June visit is sure to be memorable. We’ve rounded up some of our can’t miss events on Hilton Head Island and in Bluffton this June, so make sure to mark your calendar for some (or all) of these experiences.

HISTORIC FORT MITCHEL TOUR, HILTON HEAD PLANTATION: MONDAYS AT 10 A.M.

Step back in time to the Civil War era during a historic tour of Fort Mitchel, the site of a coastal defense battery that once protected the Port Royal Sound. Costumed characters make the experience even more realistic while an experienced guide can answer all your questions about this historic site and its namesake, General Mitchel, for whom Mitchelville is named. Tours are family-friendly.  

TURTLE TROT 5K AT PALMETTO DUNES: WEDNESDAYS AT 8 A.M.

Start your day with a 5K! Sign up for the Palmetto Dunes Turtle Trot 5K and choose between two scenic courses, a beach course during weeks with a low tide (June 12th and 26th) and a road course for weeks with a high tide (June 5th and 19th). Your $25 entry fee includes a t-shirt, snacks, drinks, and kids under 12 race for free. Race fees benefit the Palmetto Dunes Cares Fund, a charitable organization promoting health, environment, arts and culture, community development, and education on and around Hilton Head Island.

HISTORIC BIKE TOURS AT HILTON HEAD ISLAND COMMUNITY PARK: WEDNESDAYS AT 10 A.M.

One of the best ways to explore Hilton Head Island is on a bicycle. Not sure where to begin? Join a three-mile guided bike tour through some of the Island’s most interesting and impactful historical sites. Weekly Historic Bike Tours are a great way to get comfortable biking around Hilton Head Island in a safe, fun, and educational setting. Don’t forget your sunscreen and a water bottle! The pace is leisurely, and the tour is appropriate for cyclists of all ages.

MOVIE NIGHT IN THE PARK AT SHELTER COVE COMMUNITY PARK: THURSDAYS AT 9 P.M.

The fun doesn’t stop when the sun goes down on Hilton Head Island. Bring a blanket or a beach chair and get ready to unwind with a great movie under the stars! On June 13th, check out the action of Guardians of the Galaxy. June 20th brings family-friendly fun with Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. And on June 27th, the whole family will love singing along with Mary Poppins Returns.

SUNSET CELEBRATION SUMMER CONCERTS AT SHELTER COVE COMMUNITY PARK: FRIDAYS FROM 7-10 P.M.

Celebrate summer with live music and family entertainment at the Shelter Cove Community Park. Sunset Celebration Summer Concerts are the perfect way to spend a warm Lowcountry evening! On June 14th and 28th, enjoy Motown, R&B, and blues tunes performed by Deas-Guyz. On June 21st, The Headliners will play the classics from the 50s and 60s, as well as today’s hits.

HARBOURFEST FIREWORKS NIGHT AT SHELTER COVE HARBOUR & MARINA: TUESDAYS FROM 6-10 P.M.

Each Tuesday during the summer, young and old alike enjoy live musical performances and an impressive fireworks display during HarbourFest at Shelter Cove Harbour and Marina. Sing along to live music by Shannon Tanner & the Oyster Reefers, who will play all your favorite Caribbean-inspired tunes to get you in the vacation spirit, and be entertained by Cappy the Clown’s hijinks. This family-friendly weekly event has been a Lowcountry tradition for 30 years and is not to be missed! See the website for the full schedule of activities and fireworks dates.

THROUGH MY EYES II: PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT AT THE SOCIETY OF BLUFFTON ARTISTS: JUNE 3-30 (OPENING RECEPTION JUNE 9)

“Through My Eyes II”, featuring the works of artist Kendra Natter, will be on display at the SoBA gallery during the month of June. Kendra is an active member of the Camera Club of Hilton Head Island, and her work has been featured in prominent locations throughout the area. The natural beauty of the Lowcountry is a recurring theme of her work. Visiting on a Saturday? Check out one of Missy Gentile’s abstract art classes and create a masterpiece of your very own!

“LEGALLY BLONDE” - THE MUSICAL AT THE ARTS CENTER OF COASTAL CAROLINA: JUNE 26

Fans of the Legally Blonde movies won’t want to miss this live stage production! Follow Elle Woods and her trusty chihuahua, Bruiser, as they navigate life, love, and law at Harvard during Legally Blonde-The Musical. This high-energy performance features lots of singing and dancing and is a fun and entertaining show for all ages.
