Celebrating Juneteenth on Hilton Head Island

Hilton Head Island is a place to celebrate food, music, and culture all year long. But when holidays hit, the Lowcountry really knows how to throw festivities like nowhere else. Juneteenth is fast approaching on June 19th and Hilton Head Island is the perfect place to experience it — and not just because of our incredible outdoor spacesdiverse dining, and endless opportunities for family fun. The Lowcountry is also particularly rich in African-American history and heritage that continues to thrive to this day. It is home to Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park, the first self-governed Freedmen’s town in America. Descendents of Mitchelville’s original residents carry on the traditions of their ancestors and promote freedom for all while maintaining an essential connection to the language, art, and storytelling of past generations

Read on to learn more about Juneteenth, and join us for upcoming celebrations on the island!

Jogging on the Beach

One of the joys of living near, or visiting, the ocean is being able to easily, and daily, enjoy its assets…the beach, the water, the seafood, and the tranquility of the gently rolling surf.  One of the ways that I like to get out and enjoy our great seashore is by jogging in the evenings after work along the beach.

10 Reasons Why Our Visitors Get Excited About a Vacation to Hilton Head Island

“I live in Wisconsin and I can’t wait to get here, especially when the weather is not so great back home. Once I arrive, I always say, “I’ve made it to my happy place!” I can’t wait to walk over the boardwalk and see the ocean. Every morning, I look forward to grabbing my coffee and heading to the beach to watch the beautiful sunrise. Dinner plans are usually somewhere I can watch the sunset. When I’m here, there are always things to do and see and new places to discover!” -Jean M-L

Comments and messages like the example above always tug at our heartstrings. One of our favorite things about sharing the beauty of the Lowcountry with our social media followers and blog readers is getting to hear the very reasons as to why they return to our home year after year.
