Art League Gallery is thrilled to announce the upcoming exhibition of artist Frank Gorman, showcasing his stunning oil paintings that capture the essence of the Lowcountry landscape and its rich architectural heritage. The exhibit will run from April 8 to May 9, 2025, with an opening reception on April 9 from 5 to 7pm, followed by a gallery talk on April 15 at 1pm.
Frank Gorman, a retired architect with over 50 years of experience spanning more than 30 countries, brings a unique perspective to his art. His deep appreciation for the natural world and the built environment is evident in his works, which celebrate the majestic ocean, serene marshes, and iconic Southern architecture. From the delicate dance of local wildlife to the tranquil beauty of the Lowcountry, Gorman's paintings invite viewers to connect with the landscapes they cherish.
"Painting appreciation is personal," Gorman explains. "I aim to help others remember their past and create new memories through my work. Capturing a meaningful scene allows me to understand what moves people and what is important to them."
Born in Chicago and educated at the University of Illinois, Gorman furthered his artistic skills during a study abroad experience in France. His career as a commercial architect and humanitarian missions' architect has profoundly influenced his artistic style, allowing him to convey the beauty of both urban and rural settings through his brush.
Since retiring to Beaufort, South Carolina, Gorman has produced over 300 acrylic and oil canvases, with nearly 150 pieces sold to art lovers. His work prominently features the breathtaking coastal scenes of South Carolina, inspired by local treasures such as Hunting Island Beach, Hilton Head's Coligny Beach, and the Broad River Basin. Recently, he has also begun exploring themes of historic architecture and narrative painting.
Frank Gorman's artwork has been recognized with the honor of being the Featured Artist in five exhibitions, and his pieces are currently displayed in 12 locations throughout the Beaufort/Savannah area, including galleries, businesses, churches, restaurants, and museum and State Park gift shops. He is also a former President of the Beaufort Art Association.
